Crime Stoppers

From the President: Barb Woodvine

What is Quincy Regional Crime Stoppers? We are a local volunteer organization that involves the public, the media, and law enforcement in the fight against crime. Our volunteer board of directors is dedicated to helping area law enforcement agencies solve crimes, to keep criminals off the streets and to enhance our quality of life.

We offer cash rewards to persons who furnish information that leads to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against offenders. This has proven to be an effective deterrent against crime in our communities.

In 2006, we received 258 calls which led to 88 arrests. We paid out $12,940 in rewards.

Since 1997 when Quincy Regional Crime Stoppers was organized, there have been 3,459 calls to the tip-line which resulted in 978 arrests. To date, more than $209,000 in property and illegal drugs has been recovered.

Our board of directors consists of 35 directors which gives us a greater opportunity to raise funds and fight criminal activity.

In January 2006 a $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Mark Schlepphorst to further his education in law enforcement at Western Illinois University .

We are again continuing a successful fundraiser, the Midwest Monster Adventure Challenge, with this being the 5 th year. We expect racers from all across the United States to participate. Chairpersons this year are Mike Predmore and Kevin Curran. If you are interested in participating in this great challenge, please contact us at www.monsteradventure.com .

We have several great fundraisers and events planned for this year including 50/50 drawings, a cookout at the Blues in the District, cookouts at grocery stores, children's fingerprinting, and our membership drive. The funds raised are used for supplies, operations, advertising and most importantly payouts for tips received.

In May of 2008, we will be hosting the Illinois State Crime Stopper Association Training Conference. Programs from across the state will be attending this 3 day conference to learn the latest techniques and trends in the fight against crime.

Your financial assistance does make a difference and your contributions are tax deductible. I'm confident that with the enthusiastic membership of our board and the support of our various local law enforcement agencies, we will continue to be a great organization.
